Electric Vehicles Maintenance Cost is meagre, because…

1. There is no problem like changing the oil in an electric vehicle.

2. EVs do not require any parts such as exhaust system, starter motor, fuel injection system, radiator, which are necessary for a conventional diesel/petrol vehicle. Therefore Electric Vehicles Maintenance Cost is meagre.

## Power Efficiency of Electric Vehicle

Today different types of Electric vehicles are available like Electric cars, Electric scooters, & Electric Bikes. And we also have available Electric Commercial Vehicles such as Electric Auto, Electric Trucks, Electric Van, etc. The efficiency of the vehicle varies according to the utility of all vehicles.

## Calculation of Running Cost of an Electric Vehicle

Assume Data (This data has been taken just for you to understand the figure of electric vehicles. Data can be changed according to the individual vehicle, current diesel/petrol cost, current electricity cost).

Our Daily Travel = 60km

Cost of Petrol = Rs. 85/Ltr

Cost of  Diesel = Rs. 75/Ltr

Cost of electricity = Rs. 6/Unit

### Electric Car

#### Cost Calculation of Running a Petrol/Diesel Car

Petrol Car Mileage    = 20km/Ltr (approx)

Per km cost                = Rs. 85/20km = Rs. 4.25

60km cost                = 60 X 4.25 = Rs. 255

Diesel Car Mileage                 = 25km/Ltr (approx)

Per km cost                 = Rs. 75/20km = Rs. 3.75

60km Travel cost                 = 60 X 3.75 = Rs. 225

#### Cost Calculation of Running an Electric Car

Electric Car Milege         = 120km/charge

Time taken for full charge = 5 to 8 Hrs.

Total Electricity Consumption

for a single charge         = approx 15 unit

Cost of Electricity

per Charge         = Rs. 6 X 15Unit = Rs. 90

Per km Cost         = Rs. 90/120km = Rs. 0.75

60 km Travel cost         = 60km X 0.75 = Rs. 45

#### Cost Calculation of Running a Petrol Scooter

Petrol Scooter Mileage         = 45km/Ltr (approx)

Per km cost         = Rs. 85/45km = Rs. 1.88 Approx

60km cost         = 60 X 1.88= Rs. 112

#### Cost Calculation of Running an Electric Scooter

Mileage                 = 50km/charge (single Battery)

Time taken for full charge = approx 4 to 5 Hrs.

Total Electricity Consumption

for a single charge         = approx 2 unit

Cost of Electricity

per Charge         = Rs. 6 X 2Unit = Rs. 12

Per km Cost         = Rs. 12/50km = Rs. 0.24

60 km Travel cost         = 60km X 0.24 = Rs. 14

#### Cost Calculation of Running a Petrol Bike

Petrol Bike Mileage = 60km/Ltr (approx)

Per km cost         = Rs. 85/60km = Rs. 1.41 Approx

60km cost         = 60 X 1.41= Rs. 85

#### Cost Calculation of Running an Electric Bike

Mileage                 = 60km/charge (single Battery)

Time taken for full charge = approx 4 to 5 Hrs.

Total Electricity Consumption

for a single charge         = approx 3 unit

Cost of Electricity

per Charge         = Rs. 6 X 3Unit = Rs. 18

Per km Cost         = Rs. 18/60km = Rs. 0.30

60 km Travel cost         = 60km X 0.30 = Rs. 18

## Conclusion

On the Basis of the above calculations, it is clear that the cost of running an electric vehicle is cheaper than fuel vehicles.

## Some Points of concern for Electric Vehicle in India

(A) The electric vehicle takes longer (5 to 8 Hrs)  to fully charge, while the conventional vehicle takes less time (approx 2 to 3 min.) to refuel.

(B) Currently, the charging station on the highway is negligible for charging electric vehicles; thus, an electric vehicle is not suitable for long-distance travel.

(C) Power Efficiency of an Electric Vehicle is lower than a traditional vehicle, work in the process to increase the Power Efficiency of Electric Vehicle.
